Fairy Tales
Present perfect
We form the present perfect with have/has + the past participle. The past participle often ends in -ed (opened, decided) but many important verbs are irregular (lost, written, done, etc.)
We use both “since” and “for” to say how long something has been happening.
2. Fairy tale
Fairy tales have been around for thousands of years, beginning with oral traditions. These fictional stories come from all cultures and many have their own versions of well-known tales in the English world. A fairy tale is a story with magical elements. It’s actually quite difficult to define this type of literature as many of the characteristics cross over into fables and folklore.
But these are common characteristics of fairy tales share to a certain extent:
a. Set in the past
b. Use some form or variation of “Once upon a time”
c. Fantasy or make-believe elements
d. Enchantedsetting – can include forests, castles, water or kingdoms
e. Clearly defined good and evil characters
f. Magical elements
g. Characters take on unsusal forms (giants, witches, dwarfs, talking animals)
h. Group of 3 (objects, people or events)
i. Clearly defined problem, climax, resolution
j. Most often they have a happy ending
k. Teach a lesson that is important to the culture it came from
Most importantly, fairy tales do not have to include a fairy.
